There’s a Tank on the way to the Philadelphia Eagles’ running back room.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are trading Tank Bigsby to the Eagles in exchange for 2026 fifth- and sixth-round draft picks, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
It’s the latest in a flurry of trades for general manager Howie Roseman and the Eagles over the last month, as they’ve also acquired quarterback Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings, wide receiver John Metchie III from the Houston Texans and offensive tackle Fred Johnson — also from the Jags.
It’s a somewhat lofty price to pay for the Jaguars’ leading rusher of last year to take on a supporting role behind Saquon Barkley. Bigsby will also be looked on to aid Philadelphia’s kick return game, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported.
With Travis Etienne turning in a stellar Week 1 showing for the Jaguars and rookie back Bhayshul Tuten on board, Bigsby became the odd man out in the Duval backfield and first-year general manager James Gladstone moved swiftly.
Now, Bigsby’s on his way to aid the reigning Super Bowl champs, who are led by reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Barkley.
Barkley had 18 carries for 60 yards in Philly’s season-opening win Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys. With Barkley having led the NFL in touches (378) last season, preserving him for the long campaign ahead is clearly paramount.
Backup backs Will Shipley and AJ Dillon had three carries apiece in the opener. Just how much Bigsby cuts into their snaps remains to be seen, but it would seem that the Eagles have high hopes for him considering the compensation Jacksonville received in return.
Bigsby, 24, was a 2023 NFL Draft third-round pick of the Jags who had an impressive 2024 season with career bests of 766 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games.
On Sunday, he had just five carries for 12 yards. Whether he’s ready in time for the Eagles’ Week 2 Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs remains to be seen, but he’ll eventually provide Philly with some fresh legs to spell Saquon.
